If you have ever wanted to how to get rid of rats  one of the first things to do is inspect where they are getting in and seal it off.  If the rats are already inside in the roof or around some sort of heating you will need to lay rat traps to kill them.  As you have already sealed where they get in and out you will need to inspect regularly for the dead rats as they will begin to smell as their bodies decay.

As the rats are also prolific breeders you will need also to search for a rat’s nest.  These are easily identifiable and they look a little like birds nest and can contain anything from leave and garden leaves or mulch to insulation from the bats.

Sometimes you maybe alerted to chewing sounds in the roof at night time when things are quiet, believe me if there is one rat there is sure to be another.  If you are not up to laying baits or inspecting for dead bodies it may be worth getting a specialized pest controller.
